These black bean burgers are full flavorful and easy to put together. Pile them high with your favorite toppings for a delicous meal that your family will love!
Drain and rinse the canned black beans under cold water and shake out as much excess water as you can. Pat dry with a kitchen towel. Pour into a food processor.
In a frying pan over medium high heat, add a small amount of cooking oil and the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the onion turns translucent. Scoop into a food processor.
Add the rest of the ingredients to the food processor: panko crumbs, eggs, barbecue sauce, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
Mix together until just combined. You still want to see a few small pieces of the black beans. Place the food processor container with black bean mixture in the fridge to chill for 20 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Scoop out ⅓ cup of the mixture and roll into a ball. Gently flatten it between your palms to help form a burger pattie. Place it on a baking sheet. Repeat the process until you've made 8 burger patties.
Bake for 20 minutes total. Remove the baking sheet from the oven at 10 minutes and gently flip the burgers with a spatula. Place back in oven to cook for the last 10 minutes.
Add burger buns to serving plates and use spatula to gently scoop the burger onto the bun. Add your favorite toppings including, cheese, greens, sliced onion, mashed avocado, and ketchup.
Recipe Notes:
Handle the patties as gently as possible during the cooking process, this is why I prefer to bake them. Use a spatula to transfer the pattie directly onto the hamburger bun
I like to toast my burger buns with a bit of cooking oil in a frying pan to help give them an extra crunch. This is optional.
Nutrition information in this recipe is for the black bean burger pattie only. Toppings are so personal and different for everyone, that it's hard to calculate them into the nutrition info.
