How To Make Chicken Taco Seasoning
Full ingredients and instructions are also in the recipe card at the bottom of this blog post.
STEP 1: Make the chicken taco seasoning by adding all the spices to a bowl or jar. 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp ground black pepper, ½ tsp ground coriander, ¼ tsp red pepper flakes. Mix everything together and store in a cool dark place (like the pantry) for up to 6 months.
STEP 2: To make shredded chicken: Preheat the oven to 400°F.
STEP 3: Add 3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts to a baking dish or a baking sheet lined with foil. Brush each side with oil and then sprinkle with the chicken taco seasoning. (I used about 2 tsp for 3 chicken breasts).
STEP 4: Bake the chicken for 20-22 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and reaches 165°F when poked with a meat thermometer. Let sit for 8-10 minutes before slicing and serving. If you want to shred the chicken for tacos, then follow the instructions below.
STEP 5: To shred the cooked chicken breasts, add them to a large bowl. Use an electric mixer at medium speed to shred the chicken breasts. This can also be shredded with two forks.
Recipe Tips
- The seasoning can be used on any chicken cut such as breasts, wings, legs, and thighs.
- Mix it into ground meats while they’re cooking. Use on beef, pork, chicken, or ground turkey. Also tastes great with eggs!
- You can make this mix a spicier seasoning by adding ½ tsp or 1 tsp of cayenne pepper.
- Make a large batch of this seasoning to store in the pantry! Double the recipe and use it over the next 6 months.
How To Store Leftovers
This taco seasoning can be added to an airtight container (a mason jar or plastic bag) and sealed tightly. It will keep for up to 1 year in a cool dark place. Just give it a shake to mix it up before adding it to recipes.
