Recipe Ingredients

To make this easy dessert pizza, you will need the following ingredients:

  • REFRIGERATED SUGAR COOKIE DOUGH – A tube of refrigerated sugar cookie dough is the base for this dessert. If you prefer, you can make also your own dough from scratch.
  • SLICED STRAWBERRIES – Fresh strawberries are sliced and arranged on top of the baked cookie crust to create the red stripes of the American flag. I don’t recommend using frozen strawberries. You can also use fresh raspberries.
  • BLUEBERRIES – Fresh blueberries are used to create the blue field of stars on the American flag. I don’t recommend using frozen blueberries.
  • WHIPPED CREAM – Whipped cream is used to create the white stripes in between the red strawberries. You can use store-bought whipped cream (this is what I used), cool whip or make your own and create the stripes using a piping bag.
  • CREAM CHEESE – This is used to create the sweet and tangy frosting that is spread over the cookie crust. You can use regular or low-fat cream cheese. Just be sure to let it soften to room temperature for 1-2 hours before using it for a smoother consistency.
  • UNSALTED BUTTER – Unsalted butter is mixed in with the frosting. Let it soften to room temperature before use.
  • POWDERED SUGAR – Used to sweeten the frosting and create the perfect consistency to spread on the fruit pizza crust.
  • VANILLA EXTRACT – Adds flavor to the frosting. You can also use almond extract.

How To Make The American Flag Fruit Pizza Recipe

  1. SUGAR COOKIE DOUGH – Start by rolling out the sugar cookie dough onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper or greased with nonstick cooking spray. Use your fingers and palm of your hand to spread the dough out into a rectangular shape. Make sure the dough is evenly spread out in a rectangular shape.
  2. BAKE – Preheat your oven to 350°F. Bake the sugar cookie dough for around 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  3. SLICE INTO RECTANGLE – Once the cookie dough is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Then, use a sharp knife to slice the cookie dough into a rectangle shape if it’s needed.
  4. MAKE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING – In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. SPREAD FROSTING – Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled cookie dough, making sure to leave a little bit of space around the edges.
  6. BLUEBERRIES – Place the blueberries on the top left corner of the frosted cookie dough in a square shape to resemble the blue field of the American flag.
  7. STRAWBERRIES IN STRIPES – Slice strawberries and add them in rows across the frosted cookie dough, leaving a little bit of space in between each row.
  8. WHIPPED CREAM STRIPES – Add the whipped topping stripes in between the strawberry stripes.

This red white and blue dessert is best when served immediately.

How To Store

  • MAKE AHEAD OF TIME – You can make the cookie crust and frosting ahead of time and store them separately until you’re ready to assemble the pizza.
  • REFRIGERATE – Once your fruit pizza is assembled, it’s important to refrigerate it until you’re ready to serve. Cover the pizza with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator. Don’t add the whipped cream until just before serving. I recommend serving the same day that you make the recipe.
