Ingredients For Baked Steelhead Trout
This recipe uses a few fresh ingredients to create maximum flavor:
- Steelhead Trout - I used a 2 lb trout filet.
- Butter - I used salted butter. If you don't want to use dairy, you can use coconut oil.
- Lemons - You'll need two lemons. One for freshly squeezed lemon juice, the other to be cut into thin slices to cook with the fish.
- Garlic - The marinade uses 3 cloves of minced garlic.
- Dill Weed - This recipe uses dried dill. You can also use fresh dill.
How To Bake Lemon Garlic Steelhead Trout
Baking a fish filet inside foil creates the perfect steaming effect. Not only will it cook the fish, but it will also keep it from drying out.
Here's how to make the baked steelhead trout (see the full recipe at the bottom of this post - just keep scrolling):
- Butter Dill Sauce - First, melt the butter in the microwave. Then add lemon juice, minced garlic, dill weed, salt and pepper.
- Steelhead Trout Filet - Place a large piece of foil on a baking sheet. Lay the steelhead trout filet on top and squeeze fresh lemon juice over it. Next drizzle the butter dill marinade and top with thin lemon slices. Wrap the fish in the foil and bake for 20 minutes at 375°F. Then turn the oven to broil at 400°F, uncover the fish and broil for another 3-4 minutes.

Lemon Garlic Baked Steelhead Trout
Ingredients
- 2 lb steelhead trout
- 3 Tbsp melted butter
- 1 freshly squeezed lemon - ½ for fish, ½ for butter sauce
- 3 garlic cloves - minced
- ½ tsp dried dill weed - or fresh dill
- salt and pepper - to taste

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Add a large piece of aluminum foil to the baking sheet. You want it to be big enough to cover and fold over the fish.
- Melt the butter in a bowl in microwave for 30 seconds.
- Stir in the lemon juice, garlic cloves, dill, salt and pepper.
- Add the steelhead trout to the aluminum foil. Squeeze fresh lemon over top of the fish.
- Drizzle the butter dill mixture over the fish.
- Lay slices of lemon on top
- Cover the trout tightly with foil allowing a bit of room inside but no holes to release the steam. Bake for 20 minutes wrapped in the foil.
- Turn the oven to broil at 400°F. Uncover the fish and bake an additional 3-4 minutes. Fish will be done when it's opaque (not translucent) and can be easily flaked with a fork.
