Recipe Ingredients

The main ingredients that give this Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bread its flavor and texture are Rolled Oats, chopped apples, and Cinnamon. The dense and chewy texture of the Rolled Oats paired with cinnamon-spiced juicy apple chunks are a perfect combination.

Here is an overview of ingredients you’ll need with the full ingredients list in the recipe card at the bottom of this blog post.

  • FLOUR – All-purpose flour is the base for the recipe.
  • OLD FASHIONED ROLLED OATS – These give the bread some weight, texture and balances out the sweetness.
  • BAKING POWDER – Helps the bread rise by creating small air bubbles so it’s not too flat and dense.
  • CINNAMON – This is the spice that brings everything together.
  • SALT – Strengthens the dough and enhances the flavor of the baked bread.
  • BUTTER – Unsalted butter is recommended for this sweet bread recipe. For best results, the butter needs to sit at room temperature for a couple of hours so that it is soft.
  • SUGARS – You’ll need a combination of brown sugar and granulated white sugar.
  • EGGS – Only two eggs are needed.
  • APPLE SAUCE – This will add flavor and keep the bread moist.
  • MILK – Milk helps with the browning of the bread and keeps it soft.
  • VANILLA EXTRACT – Will enhance all the other flavors in this recipe. It helps the butter taste more rich, the sugars taste more like caramel and it’s warm flavor pairs with the sweet apples.
  • APPLES – The apples in this bread keep it nice and moist while adding bursts of sweet flavor.

Recipe Tips

  • APPLE SELECTION – The best apples to use in baking are firm apples like the Granny Smith apples used in this recipe. There are several others such as Golden Delicious and Honey Crisp. The main thing to avoid here is selecting soft apples that break down and become mushy during the baking process.
  • LET IT SIT – Absolutely dive in right away however, remember that sweet breads like this one taste better a day or two after baking.
  • STORAGE – If you’re letting it sit overnight or longer, wait until it cools and place in a ziploc bag. Consider using paper towels inside the bag to collect moisture so that the bread doesn’t get wet and mushy on the outside.
  • FREEZE FOR LATER – Wait until it cools, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap then place it in a ziplock freezer bag. Thaw at room temperature or using the microwave.
