Chicken Pot Pie
Wondering if Costco's Kirkland Signature Chicken Pot Pie is actually good? We were too, so we picked one up to test it for a real family dinner.
This pot pie has a flaky golden top crust with a denser bottom crust, and it's filled with big chunks of chicken and vegetables in a creamy gravy-style sauce.
If you love classic comfort food but don't want to cook from scratch, this is one of Costco's most popular grab-and-bake meals.
What Does Costco Chicken Pot Pie Taste Like?
Overall, this pot pie tastes very close to homemade and delivers on classic comfort food flavor.
Here's what stood out after testing it:
- Flaky, golden top crust with a thicker, hearty bottom crust
- Large chunks of white chicken (not shredded or mushy)
- Creamy gravy-style filling that isn't watery or slimy
- Good mix of vegetables, including potatoes, peas, carrots, corn, and onions
- Very filling, even for bigger appetites
Texture-wise, it wasn't dry and it wasn't overly saucy, which can happen with pre-made meals. Overall, it felt like a true comfort-food dinner, not a sad freezer meal.
The filling had a good chicken-to-vegetable ratio, and we were impressed with how much actual chicken was inside.
It reminded us of the generous portions in the Costco chicken salad, which is another pre-made option with lots of real chicken.

How Much Does It Cost?
I bought this Costco chicken pot pie at a Costco in Canada for $10.99 CAD (about $8.08 USD). Pricing is based on weight and can vary by location.
For the size and amount of food, this feels like a very good value, especially for a meal that can easily feed a family of four.
Compared to making chicken pot pie from scratch, this saves a lot of prep time and cleanup, while still tasting homemade.
We usually serve it with a simple side salad or veggies to round out the meal.
Note: This review is based on the Canadian Costco chicken pot pie. The U.S. version may differ slightly in size and crust style.
Where Can I Find It In The Store?

How To Make Costco Chicken Pot Pie
This chicken pot pie is very easy to make! Important: Remove both the plastic lid and the plastic base before baking.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Remove both the plastic lid and plastic base.
- Place on a baking sheet and cover loosely with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 50 minutes, then remove foil and bake another 5-10 minutes until golden and 165°F internal temp.
- Rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
Helpful Tip: It is really important to cover and wrap the pot pie with aluminum foil, or the tops may cook too fast and could burn.
Frozen vs Refrigerated Cooking
- Refrigerated: Follow package directions (about 55-65 minutes total)
- Frozen: Expect to add 30-45 extra minutes, covered, until center reaches 165°F
How to Keep the Bottom Crust from Getting Soggy
- Always bake the pie on a metal baking sheet
- Place it on the lower-middle oven rack
- Let it rest 15-20 minutes before slicing so filling sets
- If frozen, expect a longer bake time for a fully heated center
How To Store Leftovers
Costco chicken pot pie stores and reheats well. Here's the best way to handle leftovers:
Uncooked chicken pot pie:
- Store in the fridge until the best-before date on the package
- Can be frozen for up to 3 months for longer storage
- Thaw overnight in the fridge before baking for best results
Cooked chicken pot pie:
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days
- You can also freeze cooked slices for up to 2-3 months (crust may soften slightly)
How to reheat leftovers:
- Microwave: Heat individual slices on a microwave-safe plate for 2-3 minutes, until hot
- Oven: Reheat at 350°F for 15-20 minutes for best crust texture

What to Serve with Costco Chicken Pot Pie
Costco chicken pot pie is hearty enough to serve on its own, but adding a simple side can help balance the meal and stretch it for more people.
Here are easy sides that pair especially well:
- Green vegetables: Sautéed asparagus, roasted Brussels sprouts, kale, or a simple mixed greens salad. The Costco Caesar salad or Costco quinoa salad also make easy no-prep options.
- Mashed potatoes: A classic comfort-food pairing. Homemade or store-bought both work if you want to make the meal extra filling.
- Extra gravy: If you love saucy meals, a little extra gravy on the side is great for dipping crust and veggies.
- Dinner rolls or bread: Soft dinner rolls, toast, or buns are perfect for soaking up extra sauce.

Peggy Takata says
I found the chicken pot pie too salty, too much goopy white sauce, not enough vegetables like peas and carrots. Would like some dark meat for more flavour. Otherwise it was tasty and a reasonable cost.
Anna says
I followed the instructions and after 50 minutes the middle of the pie was cold, don't think I'll use this method again.
CATHY says
HOW LONG TO COOK IT IF THE PIE WAS ONLY REGRIGERATED - NOT FROZEN
Brett says
FYI the instructions you gave for cooking it from frozen weren't accurate. It needed to be in the oven for at least another 30-40 minutes covered.
