How To Make Creamy Hot Chocolate
Full ingredients and instructions are also in the recipe card at the bottom of this blog post.
STEP 1: In a medium pot over low heat, combine 5 cups whole milk, 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, 4 ounces chopped semi-sweet baking chocolate, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
STEP 2: Simmer on low for about 15 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning. Once heated through, remove the pot from the heat. Ladle into mugs and top each serving with whipped cream.
Recipe Tips
- Heat up the milk over low to medium heat—just be gentle so it doesn’t scald. Be sure to stir often.
- Try tossing in a pinch of salt to really boost that chocolate flavor! You can also add in some cinnamon or nutmeg for a cozy touch.
- For toppings, you can add whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
How To Store Leftovers
- Refrigerate - If you happen to have any leftovers (lucky you!), just pop them in an airtight container in the fridge. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, reheat gently on the stovetop and add a splash of milk to bring back that creamy goodness.
