Recipe Tips
- Using old-fashioned oats (large flake oats) will give you the best results. They will provide a chewy texture and nutty flavor without being too mushy. Yes, you could try steel-cut oats or quick oats (I’ve never tried it personally), but the texture will be quite different.
- Make sure all of the oats are thoroughly mixed and covered with the liquid. If you’re having trouble with this, add a little more milk. Otherwise, you will get dry clumpy parts.
- Let the oat mixture sit overnight. This will render the best results, if you just can’t wait try letting them sit for 4 hours minimum.
How To Store
Store for up to 5 days in an airtight container in the fridge. Make sure to stir them when ready to eat.
FAQs
Overnight oats are meant to be served cold but yes, you can heat them if that feels too weird.
Instant oats are thinner and will not absorb the rest of the ingredients like rolled oats do. You may be left with a runny and/or soggy meal.
Steel cut oats will create a dense and chewy texture. I prefer old-fashioned rolled oats because the texture is much better for this type of recipe.
