Air fryer chicken breasts are one of the easiest ways to cook juicy, flavorful chicken using simple pantry spices like olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, and salt. Chicken breasts that are too lean tend to dry out, but this method keeps them tender every time.👇👇
This is a low-effort, weeknight-friendly recipe that cooks fast, stays tender, and works perfectly for meal prep, salads, or quick dinners without overthinking it.

Why This Air Fryer Chicken Breast Works 👍
- No guesswork. Simple seasoning and reliable cook time.
- Juicy every time. Temperature + resting make the difference.
- Pantry ingredients. Olive oil, garlic powder, paprika.
- Perfect for meal prep. Cook once, use all week.
How To Get Juicy Air Fryer Chicken Every Time:
- Use similar-sized chicken breasts - uneven sizes cook inconsistently
- Cook at 375°F-380°F - best balance of juicy inside + lightly crisp outside
- Adjust cook time based on size:
- Small (5-7 oz): 8-10 minutes
- Medium (8-10 oz): 10-12 minutes
- Large (11+ oz): 12-15 minutes
- Always use a meat thermometer - remove at 165°F
- Let it rest for 5 minutes - this keeps the juices inside

Andi's Note:
This is one of those recipes I make when I need something quick that I know will turn out. I usually cook a few extra chicken breasts at the same time so lunches are basically done for the next few days.

Recipe Ingredients 👇👇
Here's what you'll need to make this air fryer chicken breast recipe:
- 4 chicken breasts - equal in size. Pick similar-sized chicken breasts (about 6-8 oz each) so they cook evenly. If needed, use a meat mallet to pound them to an even thickness.
- 2 Tbsp olive oil - or vegetable oil
- 2 tsp dried thyme - or Italian Seasoning
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika - not shown in picture above
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
Tools I Used:
- Ninja Crispi Air Fryer 👉 this is the one I use most often, I like that it uses a glass container instead of plastic and and keeps things simple.
- Meat Thermometer 👉 the easiest way to make sure your chicken stays juicy
- Silicone brush 👉 helps coat the seasoning evenly
How To Air Fry Chicken Breasts 👇👇

STEP 1: Mix Spices
In a large bowl, combine 2 Tbsp olive oil, 2 tsp dried thyme, 2 tsp onion powder, 2 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp black pepper, and ½ tsp paprika. Mix everything together.

STEP 2: Season Chicken
Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towel. This helps the spice rub to stick more easily. Now brush the seasoning mixture onto both sides of the chicken.
Quick Tip
Preheat your air fryer for a few minutes-this helps sear the outside and gives you that perfect crispy coating. Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray to help prevent sticking.

STEP 3: Cook Chicken
Preheat the air fryer to 375℉ for 5 minutes. Add chicken in a single layer and cook for 18-22 minutes, depending on size. Flip the chicken halfway through using tongs.
TIP: Don't overcrowd! Cook the chicken in a single layer for even cooking. If needed, do two batches.

STEP 4: Rest + Serve
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165℉ using a meat thermometer, then transfer to a plate.
Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This keeps the juices locked in so the chicken stays tender and juicy.

Recipe Tips
- A light coating of olive oil matters: it locks in moisture and helps create that lightly crisp outside
- Don't overcook: most dry chicken is just overcooked chicken. Use a meat thermometer!
- Resting is not optional: this is what keeps it juicy. Rest for 5-10 mins before slicing.
- Cook in a single layer: overcrowding the air fryer basket steams instead of crisps.
Try marinating your chicken first for extra flavor! Use one of my delicious 6 chicken marinade recipes to tenderize the meat and add a mouthwatering boost.
Easy Variations To Try
- Brown sugar version: add 1-2 tsp brown sugar for a slightly caramelized finish
- BBQ chicken: brush with BBQ sauce in the last 2-3 minutes
- Italian style: use Italian seasoning + parmesan
- Spicy version: add chili flakes or cayenne
- Slice before cooking: cooks faster for wraps or bowls
How To Store Leftovers
- Refrigerate - Store chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Freeze - I love batch prepping extra chicken to freeze for quick future meals! First, let it cool, then wrap each piece tightly in plastic wrap or foil before placing them in a large freezer bag. Remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. Properly stored, cooked chicken lasts up to 6 months in the freezer.
- I usually make a double batch and freeze half for another weeknight dinner.
- Thaw - Defrost in the fridge overnight or in a bowl of cold water.
- Reheat - Warm it up in the air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes for that crispy texture, or pop it in the microwave for a quick heat-up.
How do you keep chicken breast from drying out?
- Marinate first - If you have time, marinating adds flavor and keeps the meat extra tender.
- Don't overcook! Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness-poke it into the thickest part of the chicken and make sure it reads 165°F.
- Let it rest - After cooking, let the chicken sit on a plate for 5 minutes to let the juices redistribute. This makes it even more tender and juicy!

The chicken was wonderful! I made some additions to the seasoning. I used kosher salt instead of regular salt and I added ranch seasoning. I always mix my seasonings together and the ranch is great for anything.
